Interactive Map Guide

Browser Compatibility

We recommend the latest version of Google Chrome or Safari for the best map performance.

Navigation

The Sites Database Interactive Map consists of a draggable, zoomable map with clickable markers representing database sites.

Upon loading, the map is set at a zoom level that encompasses all marked sites. The default display mode is “satellite,” but town, landmark, and road label can be enabled using the map’s controls. Double clicking anywhere on the map also zooms in and centers the zoomed map on the point clicked.

Clicking on a marker opens an info window displaying key information for each site. The info window also contains links to the site’s entry in the Jonang Foundation and Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center databases.

Tibetan Text

The map makes use of Tibetan text for the site names. To ensure that the Tibetan displays properly, character encoding for your web browser should be set to Unicode (UTF-8). Some users with older operating systems may need to download and install a Tibetan font such as Jomolhari.

If you experience problems displaying Tibetan text properly, we recommend reading the Tibetan and Himalayan Library’s page on Tibetan Scripts, Fonts & Related Issues.
